The Nature of Rhetoric
Summary
Classical Rhetoric 101.
Primary Rhetoric (Functional Rhetoric) — the art of persuasion — aims to produce emotion and is the core of a communication. This is the main concern of the Performer as Orator.
Secondary Rhetoric (Decorative Rhetoric) — the art of speaking or writing well — aims to produce admiration and is concerned with the surface of a communication.
The Precepts of Rhetoric deal with:
- Invention;
- Arrangment;
- Styel or Expression;
- Memory; and
- Delivery (Performance).
